The world’s largest international apparel fabrics and accessories trade fair “Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics- Autumn Edition 2014” was held for four days from Oct 20 to 23, 2014.

Held for the 20th time, both the number of exhibitors and visitors recorded a historical high. At the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, the venue, a total of 3,844 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions welcomed 71,138 visitors from 93 countries and regions.

“The fair began 20 years ago with 130 exhibitors across 12 countries. Now, it’s the world’s greatest fair of its kind,” explained Stephan Buurma, Managing Director for Messe Frankfurt Asia Holding Ltd, at the press conference held on the opening day. He added that despite slower economic growth in China in the last year, the focus of consumers has shifted from prices to quality, and demand for the innovative textiles provided by the fair is expected.

Silvio Albini, chair of Milano Unica, whilst mentioning the 13% decrease of Italian textile exports to China in the last 6 months, pointed out as his press conference that, “demand in China is still strong and the number of buyers visiting Milano Unica is increasing each year. The quality and innovation of Italian textiles as well as our customer services are appreciated in China.” At the most recent fair, 128 exhibitors participated in the Milano Unica Pavilion and lined up high-end textiles such as wool, cashmere and silk.

From the spring fair to be held this March, the venue will be switched to the currently under construction China Expo Complex in proximity to the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. The imminent event will be approx. twice the size of last year’s version and will be held at the same time as the Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles and Yarn Expo.
