Photographer Chikashi Kasai will hold an exhibit titled “MUSCOVITE” at the GALLERY SPEAK FOR in Daikanyama, Tokyo. From Jan 17.

The exhibit is organized in commemoration of the photo book with the same title published from Kobunsha last December. Photos of the actress Yoko Maki taken in the outskirts of Moscow, inside a hotel room and in the metro will be showcased. Differentiating from ordinary photogravures, the exhibit brings out the charms of Maki with the vivid stills taken by FUJI FinePix X100 and the documentary-like approach. Approx. 30 original prints (half cut) will be on display. Also, the photo book and related items will be available at the venue.

Kasai was born in Tokyo in 1970. He lived in Germany for 8 years from 1980. Graduated from Tama Art University in 1995. Discovered by the photographer Nan Goldin and influenced by Nobuyoshi Araki, he held an exhibit titled “Tokyo Dance” in 1997. A photo collection book with the same title was published the following year and related solo exhibits were held in Stockholm and New York. Has participated in a number of group exhibits also. Known for portrait photos of actresses, celebrities and musicians. His father is the dancer Akira Kasai.
