On Oct 25, WORLD opened the first flagship store in Asia of Free People, which is managed by Urban Outfitters in the US, in Harajuku, Tokyo (Address: 6-16-23 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). A showroom of the brand also opened next to the store.

The store consists of the store space on the 1F (265 square meters) and event space on the 2F (182 square meters). From 2013 SS, WORLD obtained the exclusive rights to market the brand. The company held pop-ups at department stores including Tokyu Shibuya and Isetan Shinjuku, and the company operated OPAQUE. On the same day, a shop also opened on the 1F of Lumine Est Shinjuku (70 square meters).

The Harajuku Store, which is located one block away from Meiji-dori, was created imaged after the stores in the US. The exterior is decorated with wood painted in white. Under the concept, “A new store produced by a creator couple,” the store is adorned with mannish furniture and feminine artistic decoration.

The quilt patchworks wrapping around the columns and wooden furniture were handmade in India. The interior walls are decorated with memorabilia which the imaginary couple collected during their trip. In line with the collage of children’s folk costumes with beads embroidery, postcards and crowns, which used to be exhibited at the first store in Paramus, New Jersey, accentuate the wall. The entire store features Free People’s special tastes with the brand logo on the wall made of nails and yarn, truss attached to the ceiling, and paper flowers dangling from the ceiling.

Focusing on bohemian and casual wear, jackets, dresses, intimate wear and shoes are displayed at the respective zones. At the event space on the 2F, a corner for henna tattoos is set up. Also, workshops will be held in the future.
