Following Loro Piana Japan’s President Kenichi Yamagata, President of Hermès Japon, Masao Ariga is appointed as Chairman of Overseas Fashion Brand Association from this month.

The new Chairman gave a welcome speech at an Overseas Fashion Brand Association meeting held in Tokyo at the start of the New Year. In his speech, Ariga comments, “The environment of overseas fashion brands is rapidly changing and the role that each brand plays is also transforming. In contrast to the rise of China and other Asian countries, the market share of Japan is decreasing. Compared with 1996, the overseas fashion brand business in Japan is almost half today. Instead of mass targeting, the crucial thing is to create quality for each specific customer target group. If possible, I would like us to achieve at least one concrete result this year. For example, overseas brands could come together and collaborate to create an opportunity to communicate our values to students. These students will potentially become our key clients. Let’s try to create a new movement amongst us.”

Overseas Fashion Brand Association has nearly 70 companies as members including Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Yves Saint Laurent.
